The Town of Conception Bay South initiated a Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) Program in March 2011 in partnership with the then Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development. Business in the Town were contacted and invited to participate. BRE is an internationally recognized economic development tool that helps identify and address barriers to survival and growth faced by local businesses. It is based on the philosophy that existing firms are the key to regional economic prosperity.

Businesses who participate were interviewed in the areas of Marketing and Sales, Operations, Location, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources and Management, Future Plans and Community Satisfaction. Resources can then be shared and identified to businesses to assist them in enhancing their business in any of the above areas.

At the end of the BRE initiative, a presentation was made on the outcome of the data collection and there was an opportunity for businesses to participate in the development of an action plan. The final report can be viewed here.
